Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, living in this economy is not easy. Everything is expensive and every little bit helps out. Follow along to learn different ways you can bring in a little extra money for your family. I have personally tried all of these so I can tell you what works and what doesn't.
What Makes a Good Side Hustle for Moms?
- Flexibility
- Little to no startup cost
- Ability to do whenever you have the time
Side Hustles I Have Tried:
1. Food and Grocery Delivery
I have personally tried Doordash and Instacart. Both of these have worked well for me. Depending on your location and the time of day can really affect how much you can earn. For optimal earnings you want to be doing Doordash around breakfast, lunch, and dinner times.
2. Freelance Service Apps
I have personally only used Upwork but there are others, such as Fiverr. I will say that it can be hard to secure a gig on Upwork unless you have a specific skill. The gigs get tons of applications, so you need to be able to stand out. There are a ton of data entry, surveys, assistant, transcription, and other tasks you can do.
3. Transcription
This is a great option to make some extra money from home. I have only tried TranscribeMe. There are many others, such as Rev and Daily Transcription. For TranscribeMe you will have to pass an entry exam. I recommend practicing first because if you fail the exam you have to wait 10 days before retrying.
4. Sell Things Around Your Home
Sell things you don't use anymore on Facebook marketplace or have a yard sale. Shoes and clothes you never wear, items your children don't use or play with anymore, household items you don't use. All of these items sell great at yard sales. We recently had a yard sale and made over $200.
5. Provide a Service
This can include dog walking, deliveries, and much more. For dog walking, I have used Rover and for deliveries I have tried Roadie. Check to see if either of these are available in your area. If not, there are a lot of similar apps out there. You won't make a ton of money, but you can earn a little extra cash.
6. Use Canva to Make Digital Products
This is great for someone who is creative and has something they can teach people. Create educational printables, e-books, planners, t-shirt designs. There so many things you can create that someone might want to buy.
7. Check Your Local Facebook Group
See if your town or city has a Facebook group. A lot of times people will post in the group asking for help doing things around the yard/house and are willing to pay. I have seen requests for raking the yard, cutting grass, moving help, and dog walking.
8. Survey Sites and Cashback Apps
Don't expect to make a lot of money with this one but overtime you can earn extra money. A lot of times payout will be in gift cards. For surveys, Swagbucks has worked well for me and for Cashback apps, I like to use Fetch.
Earning extra money is possible, but it does take work. If you find yourself with free time, try out one of these side hustles and see if it can work for you. Let me know below if you have tried any of these and what has worked for you!
