Pregnancy hemorrhoids can be EXTREMELY painful. The last few days of my pregnancy, the hemorrhoids were so bad I couldn't sit down. It felt like razor blades were down there. Hemorrhoids during pregnancy are incredibly common and are nothing to be ashamed off! There is so much pressure in your bottom region during this time, you're lucky if you don't get hemorrhoids. If you are seeking hemorrhoid relief, whether you're pregnant or postpartum, continue reading to get some tips for relief!
Let's start off with a list of items you will want to grab:
- Preparation H (see if your doctor can prescribe a prescription hemorrhoid cream!)
- Sitz bath
- Ice packs
- Witch hazel pads
- Squatty Potty (or similar foot stool)
In my experience, prescription hemorrhoid cream works better than Preparation H. However, if you need something before you can get the prescription cream, Preparation H will work just fine! Apply as direction on the box.
A sitz bath will help soothe your bottom and provide some pain relief. Filling it with warm water and soaking for a few minutes can help hemorrhoids go down some. Use as directed on the box.
Ice packs were something I tried when nothing else was working. I popped one of the Frida Mom instant ice pack pads and used it on my bottom. It helps numb the area and ice can help shrink hemorrhoids as well.
You can place witch hazel pads on a pad and stick it in your underwear. This can help shrink hemorrhoids and also provide a cooling sensation for pain relief.
The Squatty Potty stool was a life saver for me when my hemorrhoids were extremely painful towards the end of pregnancy. Your body doesn't care that you have hemorrhoids, you're still going to have to go number two. So, to make it a little less painful you can use a Squatty Potty to alleviate the pressure on your bottom while you use the bathroom.
These are the only things that helped me get some relief from painful hemorrhoids and I hope they can help you as well!
